From Displacement to Dignity: Supporting Refugees, Immigrants, and the Right to Thrive

World Refugee Day honors the strength of those forced to flee their homes. But resettlement is just the beginning. For many refugees, asylum seekers, and undocumented neighbors, the journey continues through every barrier to child care, housing, education, and a true sense of belonging.

At Arlington Community Foundation, we see these barriers clearly: not just in the stories of our immigrant neighbors, but across all our work. Whether it’s the parent navigating a new child care system, the family priced out of housing despite full-time work, or the mother escaping violence in her home country to provide a secure life for her children in Arlington, we see the same truth again and again: when one family is pushed to the margins - by immigration status, income, or race - it weakens the fabric of us all.

This World Refugee Day, we invite you to learn about the organizations creating safety, opportunity, and home right here in Arlington. Open the Nonprofit Directory and search by "refugee", "asylum", or "immigrant" to connect with, follow, support, or simply thank (it goes a long way) local organizations serving many of our most vulnerable and extraordinary neighbors.

Because in Arlington, belonging isn’t just a feeling. It’s the realization of our shared vision: a diverse, inclusive, world-class place where we all unite to form a caring, participating community. One where everyone matters, and no one is pushed to the margins.
