Friend,
As you may know, today is Juneteenth – the anniversary of the day Union troops delivered news of the Emancipation Proclamation to Texas, the farthest-reaching Confederate state.
Americans have long celebrated Juneteenth and the freedom it brought to hundreds of thousands of enslaved people centuries ago. This year, however, Juneteenth feels particularly poignant: It’s both a reminder of how far we have come since the Emancipation Proclamation and how deep the racial divide and systemic oppression still runs today.
The fight for freedom, justice, and equality did not end on that day in Texas 155 years ago. The fight continued each day thereafter and continues to this day in our neighborhoods, schools, justice system, and at the polls.
As the nation continues to grieve the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks and so many others, we must mobilize to bring change. We must be better. We must do better.
So today, I ask that you stand with me in this fight by making a donation to the following organizations dedicated to advancing racial equality and justice:
- NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund
- Equal Justice Initiative
- Southern Poverty Law Center
- National Center for Civil and Human Rights
Your donation will be divided evenly between these four groups unless you choose to adjust the allocation differently on the donation page.

Thank you for donating whatever you can to support this important work.
