Dear
On Monday, Elizabeth May stood on Parliament Hill alongside Indigenous leaders, environmental lawyers, and a member of the NDP caucus. Together, [they sounded the alarm about Bill C-5]([link removed]). Elizabeth called it the government’s "Big Beautiful Bulldozer Bill."
Hours later, Elizabeth was back in the House of Commons, challenging the government’s efforts to ram C-5 through in a way that "[makes Harper look restrained]([link removed])." And last week, when Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson claimed politicians wouldn’t choose which projects get fast-tracked, [Elizabeth pressed him]([link removed]) and exposed the gulf between what the bill actually says and what the government is telling Canadians.
Journalists took note. CBC At Issue panellist and Toronto Star columnist Althia Raj called C-5 "a naked power grab that tramples our democracy," directly quoting Elizabeth: "Not even Harper tried to rev up a bulldozer like this."
Canada’s largest infrastructure projects have never been flawless, but until now they’ve faced at least some public scrutiny. Environmental assessments—imperfect. Indigenous consultation—often rushed. Community hearings—sometimes lacking. Yet those guardrails existed, and Canadians could push back when the process fell short.
Bill C-5 strips away even those flawed safeguards.
Right now, Liberal and Conservative MPs are working together to push C-5 through Parliament. They have the numbers and expect Canadians to shrug it off. But ask yourself: If this were a Conservative government, would you shrug it off?
We won’t. We believe nation-building means investing in clean energy, affordable housing, reliable public transit, and climate-ready communities. But nation-building cannot mean bulldozing democracy, Indigenous rights, and environmental protections.
Elizabeth’s voice in Parliament has been our early-warning system. Her leadership this week has proven, yet again, why Canada needs more Green MPs.
That campaign starts now.
If you can give $15, $35, or whatever feels right, you will:
- Help keep the dangers of this C-5 power grab in the spotlight.
- Equip local Green teams to recruit strong candidates.
- Support our efforts to connect with Canadians who share our values but have never been invited to join us.

Greens have always punched above our weight. Elizabeth’s leadership this week proves it again. With your support, we’ll be ready when Canadians head back to the polls—whether that’s 18 months from now or sooner.
Thank you for standing up when democracy is on the line.
With hope and determination,
The Green Party of Canada
