Today, we commemorate Juneteenth—the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

It was a moment of delayed justice—a painful reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied.

That lesson still rings true in 2025.

Because while Juneteenth marks the end of slavery, the fight for real, lasting freedom—for economic justice, for voting rights, for dignity on the job—is far from over.

In Pennsylvania and across the country, working families are being squeezed like never before. Wages stay flat while corporate profits soar. Healthcare costs are rising. And republicans are rolling back rights that generations fought to win.

This is not the freedom our ancestors marched for. This is not the America we were promised.

On this Juneteenth, let’s recommit to that promise. To building a Commonwealth—and a country—where freedom isn’t just a word we remember, but a reality we deliver.

Because the fight for freedom is never finished—and we’re just getting started.
