At the end of May, House Republicans passed Trump’s “Big Beautiful” budget bill that contained a deeply dangerous provision: a 10-year ban on any state or local laws regulating artificial intelligence.

Now, the bill is in the Senate’s hands — and we need to act fast, because they could bring it to a vote at any moment.

This provision would strip your state’s power to protect voters, workers, patients, and consumers from the very real harms of unregulated AI, leaving you exposed to deepfakes and surveillance, as well as possible discrimination in hiring, housing, and health care.

The GOP was hoping we wouldn’t notice this provision. What’s worse, it’s buried deep in a bill that offers billions for rural broadband — meaning states would have to choose between life-changing internet access and their right to protect their own people.
