Happy Juneteenth, John! Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation and a day to commemorate the resilience of Black Americans.
Black voters hold immense and growing electoral power. That’s why we’re seeing a wave of new ID laws proposed and enacted that are designed to block Black Americans and other historically underrepresented communities from the ballot box. VoteRiders’ own research shows the disparity in access to ID: 30% of young Black Americans don’t have a driver’s license, while only 5% of young white Americans don’t have one. ID laws that require a state-issued photo ID are more likely to keep young Black Americans away from the ballot box.
From Georgia to Ohio, North Carolina to Pennsylvania, VoteRiders is working in partnership with Black communities to ensure all eligible voters know the rules and have support securing an ID to vote where needed. Read about these outreach efforts on Juneteenth and all year long.
