I am honored to have Bernie’s support in this race. For decades, he’s been a champion for the issues that matter most to our district: environmental justice, health care for all, labor rights, and so much more.

His commitment to standing with the people to build a multi-racial, multi-generational working class movement to take on the corporate oligarchy is exactly what our campaign’s about. I’m ready to join him and take that fight to D.C.

For far too long, communities like ours have been left behind while corporate interests rake in record profits and politicians turn a blind eye. As a State Representative, I serve the poorest district in Michigan. I’ve seen firsthand how the ultra-wealthy put their interests ahead of working families. The time for waiting is over. We need bold change now.

I’m in this fight because I’ve lived the struggle. I grew up in the shadow of Detroit’s factories and smokestacks and developed a cough – like so many others in my family – that I still have today. Our kids deserve better. Our neighbors deserve better. That’s why I’m fighting for a Green New Deal to get the lead out of our water, the pollution out of our air, and transition to 100% clean and renewable energy.

As a former leader with SEIU Healthcare Michigan, I know our families cannot afford anything less than Medicare for All. I’ll work with Bernie to ensure everyone in this country has universal, guaranteed healthcare — no matter their employment status, zip code, race, gender, sexuality, or disability.

And we’re also keeping the working class at the heart of this campaign. Every worker deserves a living wage and the ability to form a union. But for decades, we’ve watched corporations and their paid-for politicians in both parties gut our unions and their power, while billionaires only get richer and pay even less in taxes. I’m running to flip the script and make sure the 99% stops getting left behind the 1%.

I’ve spent my life fighting for the people of Michigan, and I’m proud to have Senator Bernie Sanders on our side. But the truth is that winning this race won’t be easy.

My opponent, incumbent Rep. Shri Thanedar, is an out-of-touch, self-funded millionaire who has more in common with Donald Trump and Elon Musk than working families like ours. As long as there are multimillionaires like Shri in Congress, the needs of working-class people in districts like Michigan’s 13th will go ignored and unmet.
