Dear John,
We hope you and your loved ones are doing okay in these incredibly difficult times.
Regrettably, we are seeing far too many parallels between this moment and the run up to the 2003 war with Iraq. It is a bitter irony that the Republican President who campaigned against that war could end up making so many of the same mistakes in Iran. And now, many of us are experiencing a haunting sense of déjà vu – watching in real time as the same disastrous assumptions, narratives, and playbooks that led us into the 2003 war with Iraq resurface once again, this time with Iran in the crosshairs.
I’ve written how and why Trump appears to be picking up the neoconservative mantle in a piece published today in The American Conservative, a publication which has long been home to many of the most prominent anti-war voices on the right.

We hope you’ll read this piece and share it, for "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” - George Santayana.
In the meantime, it is essential that we continue to take action. There is still time to prevent a broadening of the war against Iran and bring it to a close – but we all have to raise our voices now at this critical hour. The choices made in the coming days and weeks will determine whether the U.S. embarks on another tragic, avoidable war of choice in Iran – or helps bring this one to an end.

In the midst of so much pain and uncertainty, we hope you’re finding moments of connection, care, and comfort – however big or small. Please continue looking out for one another, and know that you're not alone in navigating this. We’re in this together.
In solidarity,
Ryan Costello
