Fellow activist – Happy Juneteenth!


In 2021, President Biden signed a bill into law that recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday, but the history of this celebration goes back 160 years.


On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to enforce the liberation of the state’s more than 250,000 enslaved people. This date became known as "Juneteenth" to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

Today, we celebrate Black freedom and liberation in the United States and commemorate the continued fight for equality and justice.


Recognizing this holiday has never been more critical as the Trump regime ramps up its attacks on marginalized communities, rolls back Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, and tries to silence our voices. That is why today, we invite you to join us in this joyous celebration of freedom and family and reaffirm our commitment to engage historically disenfranchised Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, immigrant communities, and young voters to participate in the democratic process to achieve a more representative democracy.


For us, Juneteenth will always be a day of celebration and advocacy. We hope you’ll join us in honoring this day.
