Dear friend,
On this Juneteenth, we pause to remember a pivotal moment in American history when freedom's promise was finally delivered to those who had waited far too long to hear it. June 19th, 1865, stands as a testament to resilience. The resilience of a people who maintained hope through centuries of oppression.
Here in Kentucky, we stand on the shoulders of countless individuals who refused to accept the status quo. From the Underground Railroad conductors who guided freedom seekers through our Commonwealth to the civil rights leaders who opened doors for future generations, our state has always been part of this ongoing story of liberation.
The work of freedom is never finished. As we celebrate today, we acknowledge that we’re still working to create a Kentucky where diversity is seen not as our weakness, but our strength. Where the CROWN Act protects workers from discrimination, where voting rights are restored and protected, where pre-K gives every child the foundation to achieve their dreams, and where quality health care is accessible to all Kentuckians, no matter their zip code.
Let’s recommit ourselves to creating a Kentucky where every child, regardless of their zip code or background, has the same opportunities that shaped my own journey from humble beginnings to this office.
Happy Juneteenth, Kentucky.
Thank you,
