Today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
This is not only a celebration of a critical moment in history, but also an opportunity to reflect on the past and acknowledge the long-standing inequities that still exist today in Maryland and across the country.
I’ve always been a proud advocate for all Marylanders – whether it’s been as a civil rights attorney, a Delegate in the General Assembly, or now as Comptroller. And today, I invite you to join me in pausing to reflect on the resilience of Black Marylanders and honor their contributions to our great state.
Together, we can work to build a more just and equitable society and advance equality for all.
In solidarity,
Brooke
