Dear Friends, Today, we pause to commemorate Juneteenth as the powerful reminder of both our nation’s progress and the continued work ahead that it is.
Juneteenth is not just about history; it’s about legacy. It’s about recognizing the strength of those who came before us, celebrating Black excellence and resilience, and recommitting ourselves to the fight for justice, equity, and opportunity for all people.

As the first Black woman to serve as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House, I carry the weight and the hope of that legacy every day. I know we didn’t get here alone, and we won’t move forward unless we do it together. For me, it is not just about being the first, but also about ensuring that I am not the last.
Let’s use today not just to reflect but to act. Let’s support Black-owned businesses, elevate community voices, protect the right to vote, and keep pushing for policies that truly make freedom real in every zip code.
Thank you for being in this fight with me. Happy Juneteenth!
In solidarity, Rep. Joanna E. McClinton Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives
