Urgent: Please pray ahead of the final vote on assisted suicide

Dear supporter,

Tomorrow (Friday 20 June), MPs are expected to vote for the final time on Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide Bill for England and Wales. The Bill seeks to make it legal for terminally ill people deemed to have less than six months to live to get help to kill themselves.

When it was last voted on in November, MPs backed it by 330 votes to 275. Only 28 need to switch for the Bill to be defeated and more than a dozen have already indicated they intend to do so. We must pray that more will take a stand for life, to protect vulnerable people from this dangerous legislation.

The vote comes just days after the House of Commons voted overwhelmingly to allow women to kill their unborn babies at any stage of pregnancy without sanction. While this result is not total decriminalisation – doctors could still face criminal charges if they perform an abortion after 24 weeks – it is set to be the most seismic change to abortion law in England and Wales since the Abortion Act 1967.

Even as we mourn for the lives that will be lost to late-term abortions, we must urgently do all we can to prevent vulnerable people at the end of their lives being pressured into assisted suicide.

Please pray that God would have mercy on our nation and work in the hearts and minds of those MPs who are wavering. Pray the Bill will be soundly beaten and that the issue does not return.

Yours in Christ,
