Dear Supporter,

Join us, Oxfam Ireland and the Irish Coalition for Business and Human Rights (ICBHR) this Monday. We will gather for an evening of information sharing and action to urgently protect the “Biggest corporate law reform in European Union history” from being slashed this month.

When?

Monday, 23 June, 5:30- 7:30pm

Where?

Comhlámh Offices, 12 Parliament Street D02 HV05 Dublin 2

Register Nowicon

What should I expect at the event?

  • Short talks from members of the ICBHR on the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and how it can make a difference, the EU’s efforts to derail these regulations on big business and what we can do.

  • Collective letter writing to relevant politicians asking the Irish government to protect the CSDDD.

What is The Irish Coalition for Business and Human Rights (ICBHR)?

  • The ICBHR is a coalition of civil society organisations, academic experts and trade unions working collaboratively to progress corporate accountability, based on respect for human rights and the environment. Members include Action Aid, Christian Aid, ICTU, Oxfam Ireland, Trócaire, and Comhlámh’s Trade Justice Group.

Why is it important to protect these regulations?

  • Workers and frontline communities fought for years for EU regulations on the impact of corporations on planet and people. After years of negotiations, the EU agreed the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) in May 2024.

  • Now, the European Commission has proposed cutting major parts of the CSDDD in its Omnibus proposal.

  • Under the guise of reducing red tape the Omnibus proposal actually threatens to dismantle vital protections that safeguard the basic rights of workers and vulnerable communities, both here in Ireland and around the world.

  • By gutting core provisions of the CSDDD, it could effectively render the law redundant in holding companies to account for corporate harm.

  • The Omnibus proposal is passing through the EU right now at an alarming speed so there is no time to lose if we are going to protect the CSDDD and the hard-won safeguards for people and planet.

In Solidarity,

Sinéad Roche (She/Her)
