A young orangutan with soft, reddish-orange fur clings to a slender vine, a bright green leaf poking from its mouth as it curiously gazes ahead. The blurred, verdant foliage behind it hints at the lush rainforest habitat in which it lives.

John,

We’ve told you about this fairy tale before: a place on Earth where tigers, elephants, rhinos and orangutans coexist in the wild. We’ve twice worked with local partners to buy pieces of this forest home and protect them…forever.

But we just heard from our partners that four of their grants have been frozen, leaving them scrambling to replace literally hundreds of thousands of dollars of funding to keep the forest safe.

The Leuser Ecosystem of Indonesia, where this forest lies, has been called one of the most irreplaceable ecosystems on the planet. But it’s under critical threat from poaching, infrastructure projects like hydroelectric dams, and mass deforestation.

That’s why we partnered with Forum Konservasi Leuser (FKL) to purchase and protect massive amounts of this forest...and give these critically endangered species a fighting chance to survive. But now aid cuts are putting it all in peril.

We can’t let him win. Can you chip in to help defend our partner  and the forest we helped them buy! – and save this irreplaceable part of our planet??

Our community has done so much work over the years to protect orangutans from palm oil pillaging, and this has been a huge part of it -- actually helping to buy the land and pay for patrols to stop deforestation and poaching.

That happens through our local partner, Forum Konservasi Leuser. After securing the land, FKL educates local communities in sustainable resource use, and recruits community members for jobs to protect the forest. But now their work is in critical danger.

It’s time to fight back. If we raise enough, we can not only help them cover their losses, but keep expanding the protected area they work in (which we’ve already helped them more than double!).

John, this area critically needs protection. Our partners need help, *fast*. And every extra penny we raise will be used to fight back against companies destroying critical natural places like this. Can we count on you?
