Weekly Poll

I ask. You answer.

Question: Do you support the Reconciliation Bill passed by the House?

Understanding What is in the Reconciliation Bill

The House recently passed the Reconciliation Bill with benefits for all Americans and fellow Mississippians. I wanted to take some time to highlight the important work of House Republicans on this important piece of legislation.

Securing the Border

As the Chairman of the Subcommittee for Border Security and Enforcement, my number one goal has been to work alongside President Trump to secure our border. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act includes resources to secure our border and codify executive orders that will ensure a secure border for decades to come.

The One Big Beautiful Bill will:

-          Permanently secure the border

-          Finish over 700 miles of border wall

-          Stop the flow of illegal drugs

-          Support mass deportations of illegal immigrants

The Biden-Harris border crisis has finally come to an end, although  we will  continue to work to mitigate the consequences for years to come. Illegal crossings at the Southwest border in March plummeted 95 percent from the previous March. However, the success at our borders won’t last if we don’t provide the necessary resources to help Customs and Border Protection (CBP) fulfill its mission.

Physical barriers play a critical role in ensuring that our borders are secure. Completed sections of the border wall have proven to be a highly effective tool for Border Patrol agents in  preventing illegal crossings. That’s why the proposal advanced by committee Republicans allocated $46.5 billion to fund over 700 new miles of border wall and invest in the continued modernization of the border barrier system.

Tax Benefits for Mississippians

The One Big Beautiful Bill stands is the most pro-American worker legislation ever crafted. It will deliver the largest tax cut for the middle class in American history and a 15% tax cut for working Americans and families, boosting their take-home pay by an average of $10,000 annually. It expands the child tax credit to $2,500 for over 40 million families, cuts taxes for overtime workers to save them nearly $2,000 a year, and eliminates taxes on tips, saving tipped workers nearly $2,000 annually as well.

I am working alongside House Republicans to ensure that we make the Trump Tax Cuts Permanent. These tax cuts have saved Mississippians thousands of dollars each year. Check out this link and see below for the impact on Mississippians if the Trump Tax Cuts are NOT extended. The Democrats voted in favor to give you more taxes. The Senate needs to pass this bill OR your taxes will go up.

Medicaid

As President Trump has said, we will strengthen Medicaid for every American who needs and deserves. House Republicans are working to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse to improve Medicaid. Our bill will not kick off Americans who need and deserve it.

QUESTION: Does this bill pay for tax cuts for billionaires?

ANSWER: The historic tax cuts included in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) impacted every American family. It is vital that we extend TCJA and prevent Americans’ taxes from going up. But independent of the need for tax certainty, our Medicaid program is on the brink of going broke. This bill also eliminates billions of dollars in waste, fraud, and abuse and refocuses Medicaid on those who need it most.

QUESTION: Will kids go hungry in school because of this bill?

ANSWER: No, kids will not go hungry. If a parent chooses not to work, volunteer, or participate in job training for 20 hours a week, nothing in this bill prevents them from filling out an application for their children to receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch at school. Requiring parents to document their needs, not automatically giving kids free meals, is important to maintain the integrity of federal nutrition programs.

QUESTION: Did the Reconciliation bill cut aid to mothers, children, seniors, and people with disabilities?

ANSWER: Absolutely not. This bill strengthens and secures Medicaid for those who need it most. There are no cuts to Medicaid for mothers, children, people with disabilities, or elderly Americans. Instead, it ensures illegal immigrants, able-bodied adults choosing not to work, and people who aren’t actually qualified for Medicaid aren’t draining the already-burdened system.

QUESTION: Does this bill take back already-allocated money from American communities?

ANSWER: Not at all. No money that has already been obligated will be taken back as part of this legislation. Our bill targets waste, fraud, and abuse in programs created by the previous administration.
