Let's talk about what just happened, John:
Last week, I was in the Federal Building in Los Angeles to meet with
federal officials as part of my job to provide oversight and
accountability of the Trump administration.
While I was waiting for a scheduled briefing with General Guillot to
learn more about the unprecedented military presence in Los Angeles, I
learned that Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was having a
press conference just down the hall.
We have repeatedly asked the Trump administration for answers on the
deployment of military forces and the needless escalation in Los Angeles
over the last week — and have gotten limited to no information.
I attended Secretary Noem's press conference in hopes of getting some
answers. After identifying myself and trying to ask a question, I was
aggressively pushed out of the room, forced to the ground, and
handcuffed.
If that's how this administration responds to a United States Senator
with a question, imagine what they do to farm workers, day laborers,
cooks, and the other nonviolent immigrants they are targeting in
California and across the country.
If that's what the Trump Administration will do to a U.S. Senator with
cameras broadcasting live — imagine what they'll do to Americans when
the cameras are off.
Imagine what they can do to anyone who dares to speak up.
This is a wake-up call for our nation. An attack on anyone's rights is
an attack on everyone's rights.
John, we will not be intimidated and we will not be deterred.
But in order to hold this administration accountable, we must unseat
vulnerable Republicans and take back control of the Senate.
