Dear community,

Today, the Supreme Court issued its decision in LW v. Skrmetti, upholding Tennessee’s ban on some forms of gender-affirming care for trans youth. It’s not the outcome we hoped for, but trans youth and our communities are undeterred.

As we review the decision closely and turn to the ACLU and other legal partners for further analysis, we are clear on this: trans youth deserve care, autonomy, joy, and the right to grow up in safety and dignity. No court ruling can erase that truth.

Let us be clear about what this decision does not do:

It does not create a blanket ban on gender-affirming care for youth. States that are providing gender-affirming care for youth can continue.
It does not impose a ban on gender-affirming care for adults.
It does not weigh in on whether trans people are protected under the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution.

In this moment, we are turning toward each other and toward action. Join our partners across the country as we come together to reflect, organize, and plan our next steps. The Proud and Free: United for Trans Power rallies will be taking place across the country. More events will be added in the coming days.

We’ve always shown up for one another — with care, with connection, and with purpose. And we will again.
