** Letter from Gov. Cox
------------------------------------------------------------

This has been a painful week. Acts of violence here at home and across the country have left families grieving and shaken our sense of safety. In a free society, disagreement is inevitable, but violence is not. We must recommit to the virtues that hold us together, and to the conviction that every person, regardless of politics, deserves our respect.

Even in these dark moments, we find light in the people around us. Abby and I saw Utah’s strength firsthand last week in Heber Valley when we had the privilege of presenting Brent and Mary Kelly with the Utah Treasure award. For decades, they have stitched their community together through kindness and hard work. Their example reminds us that our state’s greatest treasures are its people.

I wish every Utahn could have shared that experience with us and felt the hope that comes from seeing the Kellys build something special. May that same spirit guide us now as we pray for the victims and their families, and deepen our resolve to love our neighbor.

As always, thank you for all you do for our great state.

Sincerely,
