We're working to make sure the Skrmetti decision does not define the future of trans rights.

ACLU Supporter, the Supreme Court just upheld Tennessee's law banning gender-affirming care to minors. State bans on essential medical care will continue to wreak havoc on the lives of transgender youth and their families.

Though this is a devastating loss, we still have tools to fight back against the Trump administration.

The Court upheld the Tennessee ban, but that doesn't mean it would uphold a federal ban or other anti-trans laws at the state or federal level. We still have powerful tools to protect gender-affirming care and transgender rights.

There is strong precedent showing that attacks targeting a minority group based on animosity towards a particular group of people violate the Equal Protection guarantees of the constitution. As President Trump continues to openly target transgender people, we will continue to fight back.

And critically, the Skrmetti ruling says nothing about the President's unlawful exercise of power against transgender people – and our arguments against this abuse of power remain strong.

What's important to remember is that no matter what the Court or politicians say, transgender youth and their families are not alone. We will continue to fight in courtrooms and communities across the country to ensure all people have the freedom to shape their own futures.
