John,
In the 20 years since I founded Food & Water Watch, I haven’t seen anything like the first half of this year.
The assault that Donald Trump has inflicted on our environment and vulnerable communities is unprecedented — attempting to set us scrambling to respond to every erratic, planet-destroying action he’s taken since January.
But together, we’re rising to the challenge. John — you’ve joined us to fight for what matters: truth, science, and treating our planet and communities with care and respect. With your actions, we’ve been able to block some of the worst of Trump’s toxic agenda.
Now, we’re looking toward the fights ahead and we need your input as we head into the second half of 2025. Can you take our two-minute survey to let us know what’s most important to you? ([link removed])

Trump has a clear agenda that puts the interests of corporations and billionaires ahead of what’s best for the rest of us:
Threats to clean water: Millions of families are exposed to lead and PFAS in their drinking water every day, and Trump’s response is to cut staffing and roll back environmental regulations that keep our drinking water safe. Trump’s EPA has already weakened historic regulations on toxic PFAS forever chemicals in our water, with more rollbacks on the table.
Threats to a livable climate: If Trump gets his way, every acre of federal land will be open to fossil fuel extraction, and even more fracked gas will be exported — raking in profits for fracking corporations while our communities are poisoned. Meanwhile, fossil fuel companies are pushing legislation in Congress to give them blanket immunity from climate accountability.
Threats to safe food: Chemical manufacturer Bayer is pushing the Cancer Gag Act in Congress and in state legislatures all over the country, which would shield pesticide companies from health-related lawsuits. Instead of standing up to Big Ag, Trump and the Republican-led Congress have proven that they will seek to consolidate even more power in the hands of a few mega-corporations at the expense of small farmers, rural communities, and our environment.
We won’t downplay the threats we’re facing — but it’s also important to take a step back and recognize that when we act together, we have the power to block Trump’s agenda.

Together, we protected the historic Lead Out of Water Rule, which will save millions of families from lead exposure in their drinking water. At the start of the year, Republican leaders in Congress intended to repeal this critical rule that requires lead pipe removal over the next decade. Our members wasted no time, rallying in key legislative districts and sending over 40,000 messages to Congress. Last month, the deadline for repealing this rule through Congress came and went — a huge win for clean water. We’re continuing to work to protect this rule in court.
Your efforts have blocked some of the worst cuts in Trump’s budget plan — like cutting funding for school lunch programs. In the budget fight currently playing out in Congress, Trump aims to take from working families in order to give massive tax breaks to the ultra rich. We called out the cruelty of cutting funding for school lunch programs, and after tens of thousands of messages and over 1,000 calls to Congress from members like you — we protected school lunch funding. The fight continues to kill the remaining cuts and protect funding for food assistance and healthcare for millions.
And we’re standing in Trump’s way at the state level — advancing policies that keep our food and water safe. As much as he’d like to think he’s a King, Trump isn’t in charge at the state level. Our organizing staff and powerful network of volunteers are advancing policies for our food, water, and climate in state legislatures across the country. Last month, our members and allies came together to stop the Cancer Gag Act in Iowa, which would have shielded pesticide companies from health-related lawsuits. We’re fighting similar bills in other states and at the federal level.

Your messages, calls, and advocacy to oppose Trump’s agenda are working — and your input right now is critical.

With 20 years under our belt, we know what it takes to fight special interests that put profit ahead of everything else. The threat of Trump’s presidency is unprecedented, but we’ll come out stronger through the fight.
I’m proud of our staff and volunteers for putting everything into this work to protect our planet, and I’m so grateful to you, John, for standing with us as we weather the storm ahead.
Onward together,
Wenonah Hauter
