Dear supporter,
Tragically, MPs last night voted by 379 votes to 137 to allow women in England and Wales to kill their unborn baby at any stage of pregnancy without sanction.
If the Crime and Policing Bill is passed as it stands, a woman who procures abortion pills will be able to take them at any gestation with no risk of prosecution. This will inevitably lead to more abortions and dramatically increases the likelihood of complications, putting more women’s health at risk.
A full list of how MPs voted is available on the Parliament website.
An even more extreme amendment seeking to make abortion a human right did not succeed.
In our profound sadness at this decision, we remember that our God is sovereign and good, perfect and just in all his ways (Deut 32:4). Please pray that he will have mercy, and that our nation will repent of this great wickedness.
Another life-and-death vote on Friday
MPs are expected to vote for the final time on Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide Bill on Friday (20 June). Please pray that it will be decisively rejected.
Yours in Christ,
Ciarán Kelly Director The Christian Institute
