"My battle with addiction began in my early teens and grew more serious as I got older. By my early twenties, I was struggling with opioid dependence and the toll it was taking on every part of my life.
My addiction brought a lot of pain into my life, but it also hurt the people who loved me the most. The impact went far beyond just me.
In 2012 everything changed for me – I started treatment where I got the tools to build a better life. I finally learned how to manage my mental health.
A decade later, I lost one of my best friends, Danny, to an overdose. He was a father, and his son was just a year old. His death was devastating – not just to his family, but to everyone who loved him.
There are not many differences between Danny and me, other than that I was fortunate enough to find the support I needed to make lasting changes in my life. If I hadn’t been able to get that help, I could have easily been in his shoes.
Witnessing the devastating impact of this crisis has made me passionate about supporting organizations that provide resources, education, and hope for those who are struggling.
By running the NYC Marathon for Partnership to End Addiction, I hope to honor those I’ve lost and help ensure that others have access to the support and tools they need to find their own path to recovery.
If I can help raise money and awareness to keep someone else from going down the same path, and potentially save their life, that would be incredibly meaningful to me."
