1) There's No 3% Growth Without Immigration

Trump and the Republicans are right to aspire to 3%+ real annual growth in the economy. No amount of politically plausible spending cuts will lower the budget deficit more than a faster growing economy.

But our new study at Unleash Prosperity ([link removed]) makes it clear that without more legal immigration, that isn't likely to happen. Nearly half of the net growth in the U.S. labor force over the past decade was due to immigrant workers.

With nearly 10,000 Baby Boomers retiring every day and the plunge in birth rates so far this century, there aren't nearly that many young Americans to fill those jobs. It's simple math.

Now that the border is secure, thanks to the superb work of border czar Tom Homan, to keep the economy humming, we need to expand almost all categories of LEGAL immigrant worker visas. That includes the H1b brainiacs, seasonal workers, ag workers, and the successful EB5 immigrant investor program.

This will create more jobs for Americans. Our UP study finds that almost half of all the Fortune 500 companies were started by immigrants or their children.

2) "Non-Profit" Hospitals Oppose Medicaid Payment Caps as Their Prices Explode

The hospitals have launched an all-out lobbying blitz against the Senate tax bill, because it caps their Medicaid payments at Medicare rates. It also limits the "provider tax" scams which allow states to give hospitals federal funds without paying their state share.

The Senate is right to rein in these costs.

As the chart below shows, no industry has seen their prices skyrocket more than the hospitals, thanks to extravagant federal health care spending.

3) How Canada Screws Alberta

There is some irony in the Group of Seven holding their annual summit this week in Alberta, while the province prepares for a 2026 referendum on whether to separate from Canada. A May 2025 Leger poll found that nearly half of Albertans support independence.

Alberta is Canada's energy capital, but its ambitions to utilize its resources - the world's fourth-largest deposits of crude oil - have been consistently thwarted by environmentalists and elitist opinion. Alberta wants a new port and pipeline infrastructure, as well as the scrapping of mandates on clean electricity and net-zero emission cars.

Canada's National Post says the current Constitution "is explicitly rigged to diminish Alberta's electoral and senatorial power...Our heavy funding of the rest of Confederation seems to earn us nothing but contempt from central Canada."

How would Texans feel if Washington ruled no more drilling in the Permian Basin?

The goal should be to make North America the energy capital of the world. Canada needs a Trump-like leader to declare "drill baby drill."

While newly-elected Prime Minister Mark Carney hobnobs with world leaders at the G-7, he'd do well to remember his Liberal Party won only two of Alberta's 37 parliamentary seats in April's national election. He may soon be facing the same kind of regional anger that prompted French-speaking Quebec to hold two hotly contested referenda on independence in past decades.

4) Soft-On-Crime Newsom

We're keeping an eye on all the potential presidential candidates for 2028.

Here's the latest with California Governor Hair Gel.

Newsom says he wants to reverse the state's rising crime rate. He's fighting crime as well as forest fires.

Proposition 36 - an anti-crime measure that increases penalties for repeated theft and narcotics offenses, and requires treatment for recidivist criminals - passed last November with 68% of the vote.

Newsom strongly opposed it.

When Newsom sent the legislature his $322 billion state budget, there wasn't a penny allocated for Prop 36. Nada. Newsom sniffed that the funding could come from "supervisors in the counties that promoted it."

Last week, just before it adjourned, the shamed legislators finally coughed up $110 million in one-time annual funding. But key district attorneys say they really need almost three times as much.

5) Trump's Home Appliance Deregulation Is Well Under Way

We praised the Day One Trump executive orders that ended the insane Biden appliance standards, which had made everything cost a lot more and work a lot worse.

UP co-founder Steve Forbes notes that this effort is proceeding apace under Energy Secretary Chris Wright, where the deregulatory actions have now been officially proposed - and are every bit as aggressive as the Biden rules, but in the direction of freedom.
