BIG news! Vote Pro-Choice endorsed candidate and state senator Ghazala Hashmi just won the Democratic primary for Virginia Lieutenant Governor.
We couldn’t be more proud to support Senator Hashmi, who has a stellar track record of fighting for our families and freedoms:
- She wrote the bills protecting Virginia abortion providers from out-of-state prosecution and protecting the right to contraception in VA.
- She is working to pass a constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights in Virginia.
- She led the fight to stop Trump from stripping healthcare from 600,000 Virginians.
- She is defending students, supporting teachers, and fighting to block book bans.
This race was determined by less than a percentage point—just a few thousand votes.
And because of pro-choice supporters like you, our program reached more than 500,000 Virginians in the weeks leading up to election day:
- Volunteers sent 361,904 texts, personally messaging with voters across the state.
- Our YouTube video was seen more than 3 million times.
- We reached more than 240K potential voters across social media in key districts and counties.
Senator Hashmi was first moved to run for office to fight back against Trump’s 2017 Muslim ban. Now, she’ll be the first Muslim candidate to be on the ballot state-wide in Virginia.
