Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration's attempt to undo Obama-era protections for undocumented immigrants brought to this country as children was arbitrary and improper. So, for now, DACA recipients are #HereToStay!

When I supported students in the creation of the DREAMers Resource Center at Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus in 2017, we feared that the Trump Administration would target our students and knew that we needed to provide support for our undocumented community.

The US Supreme Court's decision today represents a critical step forward. But make no mistake: this battle is far from over.

We know this administration will come back harder and stronger to persecute our immigrant communities. And we must not let up. Our country needs to take the steps to make the DACA protections permanent so that our neighbors who contribute so much to this country have the same rights as all other Americans and can pursue the American Dream without fear of deportation.

Today is another day to celebrate our country's promise of a better life for all who seek it while recognizing that we have so far to go to make that dream a reality. It's a day for renewed hope to fight harder for these nearly 10,000 Oregonians - and over 1.7 million Americans - who dreamed to call this country home.

Let's get it done,

Rob

P.S. I'm incredibly proud of my former intern, Christian Calzada, for all of his hard work to protect DACA and immigrant rights - check out his interview right here!
