Today, a judge affirmed that dogs can be recognized as immediate family members under New York law. The Nonhuman Rights Project submitted two briefs in support of the plaintiffs in this case, who’ll now have the opportunity to recover emotional distress damages for having witnessed the death of their family dog, Duke.
