Friend -- We are outraged at the disaster that was the Georgia primary election last week, and even more outraged because it could have been avoided.
"Voting debacle in Georgia came after months of warnings went unaddressed"
-- Washington Post
Reduced polling locations, a failure to mail absentee ballot forms to everyone who requested one, and a lack of training for voting machine operators led to hours-long waits and people being turned away without assurance that their provisional ballot would be counted. As A.G. Holder wrote, it was "blatant voter disenfranchisement." And we could be seeing it across the country this November.
The NDRC is working night and day to make sure our elections this fall are fair and safe. Will you chip in to prevent states from repeating what happened in Georgia?
The Washington Post editorial board nailed it: In a year when it's so important to get things right, "many Republican politicians continue to manipulate voting rules for partisan advantage, exploiting the pandemic as an opportunity to suppress voting."
We saw it in Wisconsin. We're seeing it in states like Texas and Iowa, where GOP leaders are fighting tooth and nail against expanded vote-by-mail. And now Georgia -- led by voter-suppressor Gov. Brian Kemp -- is showing us they've learned nothing from the disastrous 2018 election.
If we don't take action NOW, what took place in Georgia could be repeated in state after state this November, leading to confusion and unclear results -- and if Donald Trump has it his way, another decade of rigged maps. Don't let it happen -- help the NDRC fight for voting rights!
