John,

Now is the time to fundamentally reimagine the relationship between Oregon's communities and the police.

During the past few weeks of resounding protests, I've talked to - and listened to - constituents, community leaders, and legislators and its clear change is long overdue.

I have pledged to do everything in my power to help move these conversations into concrete actions that address structural injustices, running the gamut of issues, including the possible expansion of my office's authority to independently investigate and prosecute excessive use of force cases.

Thankfully, our state's leaders are moving quickly to address the urgent need for reform. I have been working actively with advocates, legislators, and other interested parties on these crucial matters, and I look forward to doing my part to help us begin the process of achieving meaningful police accountability during the special session in Salem next week.

Thank you for standing with me in the fight for justice,

Ellen
