Dear John,
Right now, communities all over Maine are dealing with complex challenges – housing shortages, population changes, climate events, economic shifts, and more. The Maine Legislature will be voting on a bill THIS WEEK that would give communities the tools and methods they need to address these challenges with the urgency they require.
LD 1940 [[link removed]] is a bill that will update something called the Growth Management Law. This law was passed nearly 35 years ago, and it lays the foundation for Maine towns and cities to update housing ordinances, zoning laws, conservation practices, and much more. This law can be too time consuming and too expensive for many Maine communities, creating red tape that too often prevents towns from implementing their plans. LD 1940 will provide communities with the freedom and flexibility to choose a more streamlined process that will help Maine meet the urgent challenges we face today. The Maine Legislature could vote on this bill as soon as today. Now is the time to let lawmakers know you support updating the Growth Management Act.
Send a message to your lawmakers now to call on them to support Maine communities. [[link removed]]
Tell Maine lawmakers: I support Maine communities! [[link removed]]
While it’s not a cure-all, passing LD 1940 is one of the best things we can do to reduce the administrative burden on communities and help them meet head-on the many challenges we face today. Let’s give communities the tools to meet the needs of their people.
Thank you for taking action,
