Dear all,

Please join us tomorrow, Thursday (6/18) at 7p, for the monthly meeting of Berkshires DSA. Among other topics, we will be discussing next steps in our efforts to motivate Mayor Tyer and the Pittsfield City Council to reorient their budget priorities to truly serve the public, especially Black and Brown communities. We will be joined by City Councilor Helen Moon, as well as Dubois Thomas and Chad Robertson from the NAACP.

In addition, we will discuss an exciting initiative for a Just Green Stimulus for Massachusetts. John Prusinski has been leading up this work and will say a few words about it.

This week, the Pittsfield City Council has been deliberating on the budget for FY 2021. They have proposed leveling funding for schools, while increasing funding for the police. Measured since 2016, this would entail a 2% reduction in spending per student and a 20% increase in spending per police officer. We have drafted a petition to demand that the City Council reorient their priorities. With chapter approval, we will release the petition as soon as possible. Please let us know in the next 24 hours if you oppose the petition or want to suggest edits/revisions.
