Folks, the recent Trump-Musk breakup had me thinking about my own dispute with Musk from a few months back.

After I called out Musk’s attacks on our democracy, Trump’s politicized Department of Justice sent me a letter with the goal of scaring me into silence:

Well, I have news for Donald Trump and his Department of Justice: I’m not afraid, and I’m not staying silent.

When I see attacks on our democracy, on our federal government, on the rule of law itself — I have no choice but to take a stand and call it out.

It’s what the people of California elected me to do, and it’s what the American people deserve from their leaders. This is not a time for cowardice.

But with the full force of Trump’s Justice Department targeting me and my colleagues, I’m going to need your help like never before to defend my voice in Congress at this critical moment.
