No war without act of Congress

Patriot,

Right now, President Trump is on the brink of launching a war against Iran – without obtaining the approval of Congress, as is required by the U.S. Constitution.

Make no mistake, Trump is talking about a war with Iran, nothing less, according to his own recent posts:

— A demand for Iran's “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”
— That he may choose to assassinate the Supreme Leader of Iran, which he claims would be easy, and “our patience is wearing thin”
— A claim that “we” – i.e. the United States – have “complete and total control of the skies over Iran.”

Of course, numerous American planes and ships are headed to the Middle East or have already arrived, including an unprecedented number of tankers. And warmongers are lobbying the president intensely to enter the war.

Even more troubling, Trump just told reporters he is ignoring his own Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who recently testified before Congress that Iran was not developing a nuclear bomb.

“I don't care what she said,” Trump stated bluntly.

It's incredible the president has admitted he doesn't care what the person he personally appointed to head the entire American intelligence community is saying about what is going on in the world.

This is a recipe for a debacle that could drag on for months, or years.

If war is necessary for the defense of the United States of America, then Congress should indeed take action.

But is on-going war in the Middle East going to turn into another Ukraine-Russia debacle? It could become a regional conflict, or worse.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) have introduced privileged resolutions requiring a congressional declaration of war before any offensive action is taken against Iran.

As privileged resolutions, these must get a vote.

The Founders put the power to declare war in the hands of Congress because they, unlike President Trump, will face re-election and the American people would have a say.

It is possible enough Republicans concerned about the ill-considered rush to war against Iran, and Democrats concerned about presidential abuse of power, will bring enough votes to rein in the president and prevent a very dangerous escalation to war without their authorization.

P.S. We were promised a foreign policy of freedom, but it appears the warmongers are on the verge of getting the war they’ve been demanding for the last 30 years.

The military-industrial complex is giddy as can be.

More wars in far-off places and more money for them.

It’s up to you and me to stop them and those in Congress who appear to like war as well.

CONTACT YOUR LAWMAKERS NOW and tell them NO WAR without a formal declaration by Congress!
