RGV to DC: An Annual Tradition

Image

On June 12, 2025, I was proud to host the RGV to DC Partnership here on Capitol Hill. Every year, I invite entrepreneurs, public officials, and community leaders to meet with their elected officials and federal agencies to promote meaningful discussions on how to best address the needs of our region. Thank you to all who travelled here! It is my honor to continue fostering strong relationships between the Valley and the federal government.

Over $170 Million in Federal Funding for South Texas Public Schools

Image

On June 9, 2025, I was proud to announce that public school districts in the 34th Congressional District of Texas are expected to receive an increase of Title I formula funds from previous years, with a total of $171,243,659 in Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) preliminary funding. Unfortunately, due to uncertainty with the Trump Administration’s push to abolish the U.S. Department of Education, the current status of these Title I funds remain unclear.

Title I funds are crucial for underserved communities across the country and in South Texas. These federal funds are used by public school systems in TX-34 to ensure all children, regardless of their family’s wealth or background, can have the education necessary to succeed in life. We must continue to fight for Title I funds and ensure these get properly distributed to our schools, our teachers, and our students.

Fighting Fentanyl: Proud to Support the HALT Fentanyl Act

Image

On June 12, 2025, I was proud to vote in favor of S.331, otherwise known as the HALT Fentanyl Act. Currently, fentanyl is classified as a Schedule I Controlled Substance on a temporary emergency status. This bill permanently classifies fentanyl and related substances as controlled, which also ensures our law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to keep these lethal and dangerous drugs off our streets. The bill also ensures practitioners can research fentanyl-related substances (FRS) so we can better understand its overall effects on human health. The bill will now go to the President’s desk to become law.Image
