John -
I am filled with
joy and hope from the
Supreme Court's decision today to uphold DACA. The Supreme
Court's ruling was a victory for thousands of hard-working Dreamers
who have a right and fought to be in this country. They are our
essential nurses, doctors, janitors, grocers and more that keep our
country running and have been the ones to rebuild our country during
times of crisis.
That is why I am a co-sponsor for
Supervisor Shamann Walton’s initiative to allow ALL residents of San
Francisco the right to serve on boards and commissions regardless of
citizenship or immigration status. I will work hard to make sure this
measure passes this November. When it passes, San Francisco will be
the first US city to allow undocumented residents to serve in these
important bodies. It is important for non-citizens who have made our
City great, to have a seat at the table when it comes to deciding on
policies that affect all of San Francisco.
San Francisco residents who get up
every day, pay their taxes, contribute to their society, and have
children in city schools are such an integral part of the city. They
should be allowed to be a part of the future of this city and have
their voices heard.
As your Supervisor, I am committed to
keep fighting for our immigrant community and for reform that supports
a permanent pathway to citizenship for our DREAMers and others coming
to America. I will continue fighting to ensure that District 11 and
all of San Francisco is a place where our diverse community can
continue to build a better life.
We have made great progress today
but, we still have a long way to go!
La lucha sigue!
