Dear Friend,

Please take a moment today to take TWO actions to keep renters in their homes. Send an email to stop the RENTAL Act and make a call to invest in ERAP.

Email Action to Reject the RENTAL Act

Let the Council know that you want them to reject the RENTAL Act! The DC City Council is currently considering the Mayor's (anti-renter!) RENTAL Act. Instead of offering real solutions to DC's affordable housing crisis, this bill would make things worse by taking away important tenant rights and making it easier for landlords to kick people out of their homes.

At the same time, the Council is deciding what programs and services will be funded next year. Instead of gutting tenant protections, the Council should focus on finding funding for key housing programs to prevent displacement, including Emergency Rental Assistance (ERAP).

It's time to let the Council know that DC residents want them to reject the anti-renter RENTAL Act!

Phone Action to Fund ERAP

Call the DC Housing Committee and telling them to fully fund ERAP! The City Council must fully fund the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) at $100 million. ERAP helps renters who are facing housing emergencies, by providing funds for past due rent and helping people leave homelessness by paying for security deposits and first month's rent for a new apartment.

Evictions are at a 10 year high and DC renters are struggling with high rents. ERAP is a lifeline to help a family stay in their home and ensure landlords are paid. It's often a last stop before homelessness. The Mayor's budget puts only $5 million into ERAP, virtually gutting the program. Last year, the program was cut to $26.9 million and the application portal had to close in less than 1 day.
