John –
We know what's right -- and now we need to be courageous together to demand change. We must divest from and demilitarize the police and invest in and build Black communities.
Corporations, like McDonald's where I work, must be held accountable. They say that they stand with Black Lives, but how can they say they support workers like me when they pay poverty wages?
Only by going on strike and organizing together do we win raises and improvements on the job. And only by fighting together can we push back against the systemic racism and oppression that continue to exploit us every day.
Join me tomorrow to keep up the fight for Black lives: find a Juneteenth event near you.
Juneteenth is this Friday, June 19. It's a 155-year old celebration of the end of slavery, and a rare moment for our communities to proclaim in one voice that Black Lives Matter, and that we won't tolerate anything less than justice for all our people.
Right now, uprisings are taking place in all 50 states, and more than two-thirds of Americans agree that police violence is systemic. It's time to demand bold structural change, both on the job and in society. Let's come together and make it happen.
Sign up for a Juneteenth event near you!
