Dear NRDC Supporter,
For something so teeny tiny, microplastics are quite a huge environmental and public health problem.
These practically invisible pieces of plastics are shed from the larger pieces of plastic that surround us in our everyday lives — and sometimes are even intentionally added to products, like the little fragrance beads in personal care products.
You can — and should — protect yourself and your loved ones from microplastics. Check out our guide, 10 Things You Can Do to Reduce Your Exposure to Microplastics, for science-backed tips and the answers to questions like...
Microplastics leak into the environment, contaminating the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe … and making their way into our bodies.
Why is this so bad? Microplastics are increasingly linked to digestive, reproductive, and respiratory issues, and have been found everywhere from the human heart and brain to testes and placentas.
Ultimately, we need policymakers and companies to find new ways to cut down plastic production and use. NRDC’s scientists and policy experts are working hard to compel them to do just that — but in the meantime, we want to make sure you know how to protect yourself and your family from microplastics.
See how much you know by checking out 10 Things You Can Do to Reduce Your Exposure to Microplastics.
Sincerely,
NRDC
