You’re likely going to receive a LOT of emails this week, from candidates across the country, asking for money before the end of the quarter deadline.

I won’t lie: this is one of those emails! But before I ask, I want to explain why my campaign is different from the rest, and why you should consider contributing today.

1. The report we’ll file with the FEC will be public information for all to see. National Republicans and our self-funding opponent will be looking closely for any grassroots weakness they can exploit – and make our lives miserable with hateful ads for the next 18 months. We need a show of strength heading into the summer.
    
2. This will be the most competitive House race in Illinois, and one of the closest in the country. I won his first race by just four points, and it took outperforming the top of the ticket to hold this seat. We need any competitive edge possible in a district this close.
    
3. We need trusted leaders, not far-right extremists, representing us in Washington. As the only meteorologist in Congress, I have decades of built-up trust with the residents of IL-17.

For those reasons we’re aiming to raise $20,000 between now and the end of the quarter to send a message to the MAGA movement that flipping this seat won’t be easy.
