Amidst the barrage of terrible news and growing threats against our communities, it’s important that we take time to celebrate immigrant heritage and reclaim our joy.

Joy lives in the languages we speak, the songs we sing, the food we eat, and the cultures we carry. Joy is in our family stories and the traditions passed down through generations. Joy is in our moments of rest and resistance.

And in the darkest times, joy is a revolutionary act — and a source of power.

This Immigrant Heritage Month, we’re holding space to celebrate our roots, our identities, and our cultures. For centuries, immigrants have built a rich tapestry of culture, art, and community in this country, leaving our mark on the food we share, the art we create, and the communities we build.

This month and every day, no matter how toxic our politics become, there is no shame in being an immigrant. There should be only pride.

So, whether you’re cooking your favorite meal, joining a protest, or gathering with loved ones, know this, friend: Immigrant heritage is worthy of celebration, immigrant lineages are powerful, and immigrants’ presence makes this country better.
