The pain and rage following generations of racial injustice and countless acts of state violence against Black people like Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tony McDade, and Rayshard Brooks is finally getting the national conversation it deserves. The murders of countless Americans, at the hands of police and because of entrenched white supremacy, have brought our nation to a breaking point. We cannot look away and we must do everything we can to pursue true racial justice.
Part of effectively doing that work is knowing our history. Make no mistake, what we’re witnessing now is the same systemic oppression and racial violence that has been happening in this country since the beginning. And the anti-choice Radical Right has been there since the beginning.
I decided to write The Lie That Binds after realizing how many people didn’t know that the Religious Right was formed to fight school desegregation and not abortion. Preserving the white male patriarchy has always been one and the same with the forces behind the anti-choice movement. I hope you'll consider checking it out and adding it to your reading list.
