What Renters Should Know As NYC’s Broker Fees Law Kicks In
Since the FARE Act went into effect last week, landlords can no longer stick renters with the fees for real estate brokers they didn’t hire, a change estimated to save New Yorkers over 40 percent in average upfront costs to move apartments.
But with limited capacity to investigate brokers and fines for offenses relatively low, the city will depend on renters to be proactive in defending this newfound right.
