Congress is about to debate a resolution to block the Trump
administration from going to war against Iran -- now is the moment to
raise our voices to stop a new U.S. war in the Middle East! Call your
representatives in Congress right now to demand they vote in favor of
the War Powers Act resolution that will be debated and voted on in the
coming days.
Mass opposition is growing to the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. We
have been in the streets in the past week condemning this act of
aggression alongside millions of people who oppose Trump's agenda, and
we are planning for other actions later this week. In the coming
hours, a rare debate will unfold in Congress on a measure that would
prohibit Trump from ordering an all-out U.S. attack on Iran. This is a
moment when we need to use every avenue possible to make it clear that
millions of people reject this drive to war.
Already, the administration has backed the brutal Israeli
bombardment that has caused widespread civilian casualties -- carried
out with an arsenal paid for with our taxpayer dollars. But now, Trump
may be on the verge of ordering direct U.S. strikes that would
escalate the war to unspeakably dangerous new heights. U.S. "boots on
the ground" could easily be drawn in, and war could ripple across the
entire region or even the whole world. We need to take a stand and
prevent this from becoming a reality!
Only Congress has the power to declare war under the Constitution.
If Trump were to unilaterally start a new war, it would be illegal
under both international and U.S. law. Although over the years
Congress has routinely capitulated to the White House on issues of war
and peace, the War Powers Act remains an important tool to reign in
unilateral military actions by the president. The majority of people
in this country do not want to start another endless war -- we need to
make sure every politician in Washington votes with that fact on their
mind.
After having committed genocide in Gaza for nearly two years, the
Israeli regime is now igniting an even wider war across the Middle
East with its unprovoked attack against Iran. And regime change in
Iran -- which controls vast oil and gas resources -- has been a
long-standing goal of the Pentagon and the State Department
establishment. But the people of this country have nothing to gain and
so much to lose if the warmongers get their way.
