John,
Over the weekend, Americans in cities and towns across the country gathered to uphold a truth that runs deeper than party: We don’t answer to kings — we answer to the Constitution.
No Kings Day showed that Americans are mobilizing and standing at the ready to reject corruption, authoritarian politics, and executive overreach.
At Issue One, we are too — we’re fighting back to defend our democracy with our Check The Exec campaign by: [1]
-
Running targeted ads in key states to push specific Members of Congress to act.
-
Spotlighting local voices affected by Trump’s overreach.
-
Organizing direct pressure on lawmakers, urging them to uphold their oath to the Constitution and stand up for their constituents.
And it’s working — Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), and others have spoken up against these abuses and called for Congress to reclaim its constitutional role.
But one or two voices is far from enough. We need a chorus.
We know our strategy works, but if we fall short of our $10,000 June goal, we won’t be able to keep this pressure up.
And if we can’t? There’s a real risk that executive overreach becomes the norm, and that our system of checks and balances becomes delegitimized.
This is how most democracies erode — through the normalization of overt power grabs; through silence by those meant to hold power to account; and abuses of power going unchecked. I know you won’t let that happen.
Rush a gift before June 30 to protect the Constitution and our system of checks and balances >>
Thanks for protecting our democracy, The Issue One Team
