Hi friends. As we work through difficult times, I wanted to take a moment and share this newsletter of highlights, advice, and reflections. I hope it finds you well.
Young people take charge
I've been thrilled to see young leaders stepping up nationwide to lead peaceful protests against injustice. Today's youth face immense obstacles, but they aren't afraid to organize and fight for a better world. From the Parkland gun violence prevention activists to the young Black leaders of the current moment, I stand with you and your generation.
Powerful, peaceful protest
Hometown Life: Protesters picket peacefully outside Livonia Police Department
Livonia has come together to demand racial justice. I'm inspired -- dozens of protesters exercised their right to peacefully assemble and demand better from their government. I fully support these activists and commit to working toward racial equity in every way I can.
PPE saves lives
As Michigan businesses begin to reopen, I want to remind everyone of the critical importance of wearing a mask when in public. Handkerchiefs, bandanas, or scarves will do in a pinch -- be sure that anytime you're indoors or within 6 feet of someone else, you cover your face. If we work cooperatively, we can emerge from this pandemic stronger together.
