John
This is a big week in the Senate, and it's a short week with the Juneteenth federal holiday on Thursday. We have important work to get done. The Senate Finance Committee I serve on has released the text of a large portion of the Senate's tax and spending reduction bill. I have personally worked directly to make sure this bill contains Oklahomans' specific priorities.
The left is trying to push the fake news that this bill will only help the very rich and corporations. That's not true, but the rumors, fake news, and wild social media posts continue to circulate. This bill will help Oklahomans keep more of their money and more easily navigate the federal tax maze. Remember, if we don't pass this bill, taxes will go up on all Americans at the end of 2025. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act will also modernize our air traffic control system, reduce taxes on senior adults, cut off federal benefits to people living illegally in our nation, and take the first step in reducing our huge national deficit. We are trying to finish the bill by the Fourth of July.
Pray for wisdom, unity, and the tenacity to get it done.
We have two nominations on the Senate floor this week for Health and Human Services and the Federal Communications Commission. The House passed President Trump's "recissions" bill recently as well to continue to cut federal spending and shrink the size of government and work continues on funding the government by the September 30th deadline. We are committed to doing the work of the American people and helping President Trump put America first.
This past weekend saw more storms in Oklahoma, the US Army’s 250th birthday, Flag Day, violent protests in multiple cities around the nation; and escalating tensions in the Middle East as Israel exercises their right to protect themselves from a future nuclear armed Iranian regime that will undoubtably point their weapons toward Israel and the United States.
Cindy and I continue to pray for peace and stay in contact with leaders in the area. Our nation's diplomatic leaders and President Trump are working to push everyone to the negotiating table to protect lives on all sides. The people of Israel deserve to live in peace, and the people of Iran deserve to live in freedom from their oppressive regime.
Keep praying for the nation and for the peace of Jerusalem.
In God We Trust,

James Lankford
