Hi
Friend,
In less
than a week, more than 15,000 Kiwis have signed the "Rates Cap Now!"
petition to limit council rate hikes to annual inflation.
But that's
not nearly enough to win, Friend. And as I look through the names, I
can't see yours!
Councillors, media, and even MPs are taking notice. But
'taking notice' alone isn’t enough. We need sustained momentum. Put
another way: To win, we need your support to get us to 20,000
signatures – then 30,000 – and beyond.
Farmers back the cause @ Fieldays
🚜
We launched
the campaign last week at National Fieldays. We met thousands of rural
ratepayers brassed-off at council rates and spending, just like you
and me.
Even a few friendly councillors (and a mayor!)
popped by for a chat, quietly commenting "this campaign is long
overdue" and "you wouldn't believe the waste that goes on" — what does
that tell you?
Unfortunately, it's not up to these lone-voice
councillors – it's up to central government to pass these
laws, which are used successfully overseas to keep rates
under control.
In
politics, the squeaky wheel gets the oil: only with the support of
tens of thousands of ratepayers can we win this and force Local
Government Minister Simon Watts to act. Please add your name now to make it
happen.
Fortunately, we got some time with loads of other MPs,
and Jordan took his opportunity to have a chat with the Prime Minister
directly.

We
need to squeeze the councils so they stop squeezing
you!
Friend, clearly there is a massive public appetite for rates
capping. We need to turn that into a moment to make it a political
inevitability – thus we need *you* to do your bit and sign the
petition now.

Rates
continue to be one of the biggest drivers of the cost of living, and
laws are needed to rein in councils from spending your hard
earned money on non-essentials.
It's up to you, Friend?
We have the
perfect ingredients for a political victory: strong public support,
flailing local councils, and a government eager to improve its
polling.
We
haven't seen this kind of buzz for a campaign since we stopped Three
Waters! But that campaign still took many, many months and a
nation-wide campaign to spread the message.
Only your support means we can *force* rates capping
onto the Government's legislative agenda.
Every bit
fuels the fire for accountability — no matter the size.
Thank you
for your support.
