John,
I’ve never felt energy like this.
This weekend, I marched alongside thousands of Common Cause members and millions more across the country.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with Democrats, Republicans, and independents, we showed up 5 million strong in over 2,100 cities to send a message that couldn’t be ignored: in America, we don’t have kings.
We rallied in parks, on courthouse steps, and in the streets of big cities and small towns. We carried signs. We sang. We cried. And together, we made something undeniable: a people-powered movement that’s not just watching history happen, we’re shaping it.
Just a few months ago, the so-called experts in Washington were saying Trump 2.0 couldn’t be resisted. That we were too tired. That the far-right had won.
You helped prove them wrong. Trump wants to act like a dictator because he knows the people aren’t behind him. But the American people are fed up.
We’re fed up with watching leaders silence dissent and hoard power. Fed up with the hate and threats aimed at our communities. We're done with being told to sit down and take it while everything we care about is under attack.
And we’re seeing it in the streets, too. Since Trump returned to office, the number of protests and rallies has skyrocketed—three times as many as at this point in his first term. After this weekend’s No Kings mobilizations, that number is only growing.[1]
This weekend made something clear: What we showed—peacefully—is that we’re not going anywhere.
Even in a weekend filled with hope, we can’t ignore the pain some of our communities are carrying right now. A tragic incident at a No Kings event in Salt Lake City resulted in the death of a No Kings attendee, and others were impacted by violence in Minnesota and beyond. We’re grieving with them.
We reject political violence in all forms. And as we mourn, we recommit to protecting one another—and to continuing this work with care, courage, and resolve.
Because together, we are powerful, John—and this is just the beginning.
We must keep this grassroots momentum going all summer long, and we want to make sure we're doing it right. That means hearing directly from you.
Can you take a minute to fill out this short survey? We’re not asking for money—just your voice. Your feedback helps us make this movement stronger, smarter, and more impactful in every state.
Thanks for being a part of this movement.
With hope,
Alma Couverthie, Senior Vice President, Campaigns and Organizing
and the team at Common Cause
