Dear John,
Donald Trump’s deployment of U.S. Marines and the National Guard against peaceful protestors in Los Angeles is a direct assault on democracy.
Trump doesn’t give a damn how many people are injured or killed. In fact, he and his lackeys want blood in the streets. His entire goal is to provoke an escalating cycle of violence that he can use to suspend the Constitution and impose martial law.
It’s the first step in the creation of a Trump police state.
This is a make-or-break moment for the survival of democracy, and the team here at Inequality Media Civic Action is sounding the alarm to our nearly 10 million followers on social media and helping to mobilize grassroots support to stop Trump’s authoritarian takeover.
That’s why I’m asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s assault on our democracy?
I’ll be honest. I’m worried. I haven’t seen anything like this since the Kent State massacre during the Vietnam War. And as awful as that day was, I fear this time could be even worse.
Because Trump isn’t just trying to quell a single demonstration or protest movement. His goal is to dismantle American democracy.
He claims that people in Los Angeles are launching an insurrection. He’s lying. The only insurrection that’s taken place on American soil in recent memory is the one he personally instigated on January 6, 2021.
History shows that once an authoritarian ruler establishes the infrastructure of a police state, that same infrastructure can be turned on anyone.
Therefore, we must be resolute. We must be smart. And we must be nonviolent.
Inequality Media Civic Action is ramping up our efforts to warn the American people about the dangers of Trump’s emerging police state. But as a grassroots-funded organization, we rely on your support to power our efforts to resist Trump.
So I’m asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to help Inequality Media Civic Action educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s authoritarian takeover?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
