Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon, everyone, and happy Monday!
I’m happy to report that the House recently passed the Rescissions Act of 2025, President Trump’s spending cuts package.
Passing this legislation is a long-overdue course correction. Wisconsin families are sick and tired of seeing their hard-earned tax dollars funneled into radical pet projects overseas and politically biased media here at home. With the passage of the Rescissions Act of 2025, we aren’t just cutting spending—we are codifying the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) findings into law.
This bill locks in $9.4 billion in real savings and marks a monumental step toward restoring fiscal sanity, putting America First, and delivering on President Trump’s promise to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. House Republicans are committed to ending the era of bloated, woke government.
I’m optimistic this is the first of many rescissions packages to come this Congress, and I look forward to continuing to support this consequential effort.
Keep reading on to hear additional updates about what's been happening in Washington. I hope you have a great week.
-Scott

Statement on Recent Shootings in Minnesota
On Saturday, I issued the following statement in response to the horrific shooting of members of the state legislature in Minnesota:
"Sickened by the targeted, political attack that took the lives of Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, and left Sen. John Hoffman and his wife seriously injured.
"Violence against public officials is an attack on the democratic process itself. We stand with the people of Minnesota and all those grieving this horrific loss."
HALT Fentanyl Act Passes House of Representatives
Recently, the House passed S. 331, the HALT Fentanyl Act. House Republicans are delivering on our promise to stop the flow of deadly fentanyl that’s devastated communities and torn families apart. Drug overdoses are the leading cause of accidental death—fentanyl being the primary driver among Americans 18-45.
I’d like to recognize Lauri Badura, of Oconomowoc, WI, and Dr. Timothy Westlake, of Waukesha, WI, for their leadership on legislation that culminated in the bill we passed last week. Lauri has worked tirelessly to raise awareness on the dangers of drug addiction throughout Wisconsin following the loss of her son, Archie, to a fentanyl overdose.
I’m proud to support the HALT Fentanyl Act to permanently classify fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs.
Fitzgerald Talks Senators Floating Splitting up Big Beautiful Bill: “This Is the Only Show in Town”
In case you missed it, last week I joined Fox Business to discuss the importance of passing the "one big, beautiful bill."
Members of Congress must remember that the "one big, beautiful bill" is the only show in town. If you’re willing to risk losing the chance to extend the largest tax cuts in American history, you’ve got a lot of explaining to do down the road.
Blowing up the bill and starting from scratch would put President Trump’s agenda in serious jeopardy. The American people didn’t just vote for that agenda—they delivered a mandate.
Statement on Israel’s Strike Against Iran
Last week, I issued the following statement in response to Israel’s strike against Iran:
“I strongly support Israel’s right to defend itself in the face of escalating threats from Iran, which is the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism.
“President Trump and Secretary Rubio have made clear that the United States was not involved in the planning or execution of these attacks. However, our commitment to Israel’s security remains firm.
“I’ve consistently supported efforts to prevent a nuclear Iran, and I stand with President Trump in his efforts to restore stability in the region.”
Joined The Dan O'Donnell Show
Recently, I joined The Dan O'Donnell Show to discuss the passage of the Rescissions Act of 2025 and ongoing discussions about the "one big, beautiful bill."
Housing Supply Challenges in Rural Communities
The House Financial Services Committee last week held a hearing titled, “Housing in the Heartland: Addressing Our Rural Housing Needs.”
Building on prior discussions around innovative housing solutions, the Committee examined how rural communities can better leverage private-sector investment and community-led solutions to meet their unique housing needs. The hearing also evaluated the current state and limitations of existing rural housing programs.
Happy 250th Birthday U.S. Army
On Saturday, the U.S. Army celebrated its 250th birthday—honoring 250 years of courage, commitment, and service!
We’re grateful to the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in defense of our freedoms. It’s a legacy I’m proud to be connected to, and one our nation will always be thankful for.
Here’s to the U.S. Army and all those who wear the uniform with pride!
